The word “Spartan” comes to mind when looking at this view of the inside of the Hall. Nothing comfortable or easy-on-the-eye about this place. The far end of the Hall was also a part of the corridor from the south to the north of the building. Probably only 5 radiators and no insulation almost certainly made this a less than comfortable place to be in for any time. Note the meanness of the bench and chair seating.

And what a contrast after the Hall’s conversion to a Library. It looks purposeful, colourful and was no doubt greatly needed at the time of its change of use. In more recent years, traditional patterns of Library use have changed, with their evolution into multi-media study / learning centres with computers in great use, alongside a reduced level of book readership.

The right hand photo and that of the School badge is from a collection compiled by former Biology Technician Mrs. Betty Haughey, and offered to the SOP by Robert Jempson, via her son, Mark (not an O.P.)
